The 2008 Strathclyde Film and Video Event
attracted entries from Dundee Camcorder Club, Perth
Camcorder Club, East Renfrewshire and XDL Films.

The films are judged by the members of the participating clubs. Taking account of the scores of individual members, each club has a maximum of ten points to divide among any or all of the films other than their own.

The JOHN COLEMAN TROPHY

The Strathclyde event fell on a dismal day in November with heavy rain, floods and road closures.  However 33 people still managed to brave the elements and find their way to Lanark.

This year’s competition theme was ‘Blue’ and four clubs had entered, but unfortunately the person with East Renfrewshire entry was missing somewhere in the wild weather.

The first film shown was XDL’s entitled ‘Brandon Lewis Ultimate Exterminator’ about a pest exterminator who half demolishes the house and still did not manage to get the rat. A lot of work had gone into the making of this funny film.

Still no film from East Renfrewshire.

The second film was from Dundee Camcorder Club entitled ‘Oops!’ This was about a DIY man who tampered with his fuse box and paid the ultimate price. He met St Peter and was given a second chance only to blow it again! This film was also funny with good visual effects.

Still no film from East Renfrewshire.

The third film was from Perth Film-Makers Club entitled ‘Sapphire Blues.’ This was about a woman who lost a ring and a mistaken identity. It was a well made film with good close ups shots.

The club members from East Renfrewshire managed to breathe a sigh of relief when their fellow members arrived just as the Perth film finished. Their entry was entitled ‘Life in the Deep Blue’. This was filmed in the Southern Red Sea with beautiful shots of the sea life in this area. I personally didn’t fancy swimming there, the sharks put me off!

The famous Sam tea followed where club members with a film submitted for the competition discussed how their points would be allocated.

After tea Ken McRonald was the score master which resulted in the following result.

East Renfrewshire                   8 points.

Dundee Camcorder Club        9 points.

Perth Film- Makers Club         11 points.
XDL                                          12 points.

As you can see it was a close run thing with only a few points between each film.  Well done to all the teams for giving us such a good afternoon’s entertainment.

The cup was presented to XDL by Peggy Forsyth who also drew out the theme for next year’s competition, ‘Team Work’.

We were then treated to the two entries for the IAC Mermaid and Mini Mermaid Competitions.

The one for the Mermaid competition was ‘House Sitters’ by XDL which won the Strathclyde competition last year, and the one for the Mini Mermaid competition was ‘Alarm Call’ by Jean and Ken McRonald.

We were then shown the IAC promo film for BIAFF 2010 at Bedford.

This was followed by a beautiful film that had won the best actor award at the Guernsey Lily. It was about a man finding a really good bottle of wine and waiting for a special moment to open and drink it.

The meeting was brought to a close with a vote of thanks to everyone who had helped make it such an enjoyable day.

Remember the theme for the 2010 Strathclyde event is “TEAMWORK”
